Minnesota’s Officials Hope to Make Quick Deal on Relief for Bars and Restaurants
Governor Tim Walz announced last week that he was prepared to call the Minnesota Legislature into a special session as soon as this week in order to provide financial relief for small businesses who are enduring another pause on in-person service for four weeks.
The Governor and elected officials are hoping to have a preview of the state’s latest budget forecast on December 1, 2020. The budget forecast would help shape small business relief proposals from the Minnesota Legislature. Both parties in the Minnesota House rolled out small business proposals last week with hopes of providing relief as quickly as possible. Proposals range from an estimated $350 to $400 million in financial relief.
Walz intends to call legislators back into session as soon as there is a deal on the size and scope of relief. Additionally, Walz is open to reaching into Minnesota’s budget reserves. The Governor says he is expecting better budget projections with the most recent budget forecast in order to aid in the process.
